This could be a direct quote from Olivia, who has made her goal in life to be close to no one save the Dark Lord, and even then she is still closed off too afraid of real emotions to allow herself to feel them. The most that she has allowed herself to feel was when she was in school and first started seeing Phineas, it was the closest thing to love that she experienced. Her feelings toward Voldemort is not love, but more akin to fervor. With her devotion to the Dark Lord she is allowed to toy in the darker aspects of humanity that she feels more comfortable with as she has become jaded to human pain and sorrow.

Unless the emotion is of a darker nature, Olivia chooses not to acknowledge of feel it. She is more comfortable in the arena of anger than love, and this has been made apparent with her relationship with her husband and daughter. She is quick tempered and has a tendency to raise her voice when annoyed. She is gruff and abrasive, taking out her annoyance of things on staff and Phineas. The staff sees a more physical side of her, whereas Phineas gets the verbal side of her. She has on occasions screamed at Millicent, but mostly she tells herself the girl doesn't exist.

The only time that she will allow herself to feel emotions at all is in her music. She enjoys it and it is the only time that a softer side of her is shown, and it's done privately. Only Millicent and Phineas has seen this, and it is very rare if at all.

Olivia is afraid of being emotionally hurt, and has decided the best way to prevent this is to close up completely. She's caused a hard shell to form around her to keep everyone out. Due to her ability to keep people at bay and away from her she was the perfect choice for Voldemort to choose her as head of security, including her into the Inner Circle with her husband. It made her feel important, and when Voldemort was defeated by a portion of her own family she had a terrible bout of depression feeling resentment toward her family, and deeply ashamed.

Preferring to be alone, she barricades herself in the Bulstrode mansion with only servants and house elves around; both of whom fear her as when moody she has been known for heavy abuse and feels no remorse when killing any of them.

Background:

Life as a girl for Olivia was almost ideal, she was born to parents that loved her, a sister who she got along with well, and the luxuries that living a Pureblood life could give. Olivia was well adjusted and happy until her eighth birthday, while waiting for her father and sister to return word came that there had been some sort of accident and both of them had been killed. Specifics of the cause are still mostly unknown, but in an instant their happy family of four was cut in half. It was Olivia's first experience with loss, and the pain from it affected her deeply.

After the accident, there was no way for life to turn to normal. Olivia watched as her mother slid deeper into depression until finally her mother snapped and had a full nervous breakdown. For a short period of time she lived with her Aunt and Uncle on her Mother's side who were not at all sympathetic to the girl making her work and belittling her until her mother was released from St. Mungos. Thinking that upon her release that life would return somewhat to normal she found out early on that the breakdown changed her mother completely. Instead of the two of them healing together and going on with their lives, her mother instead insisted that it was Olivia's fault for her father and sister's death. She sometimes wondered why her father's family had abandoned her, but unknown to her they had tried to get in contact but were shunned by her mother.

Olivia's mother often beat her and screamed at her causing deep emotional scars. In Olivia's opinion if someone such as her mother would treat her as such that she must deserve it, and that love was about pain and not about happiness. She began to withdrawal from everyone around her keeping sure to stay away from all of those around her. It was then that she decided that she never wanted to let anyone else in around her again so that she wouldn't have to feel the pain that she felt from the death of her father and sister or the withdrawal of love from her mother. In her mind it was best to not feel anything at all, or to only feel what she could control, such as anger. The only time that she allowed herself to show any emotion at all was when she played the guitar that her father had purchased for her on the day that he died. The package had arrived after they had received the news, and Olivia cherished it.

When Olivia was accepted into Hogwarts, she spoke to almost no one. Her only goal was to graduate and then disappear completely with only herself being her own concern. She already had started to form the hard shell around her to keep others away from her. She tried hard to stay under the radar for those around her, but sometimes she was picked out and some of the kids at Hogwarts learned a hard lesson when they would try to harass her. After years of abuse from her mother and her mother's family decided that she would not tolerate abuse from others around her. Her reactions were quick and definite and it was soon learned throughout the school that if you had a wish to be hurt seriously that you would get involved with Olivia Potter.

It was at her time in Hogwarts that she started to wonder if maybe her decision on keeping people away was a mistake when she met, Phineas Bulstrode, who was two years her younger. The two of them were opposites, he was more outgoing and yet he was able to seem withdrawn as well. Olivia was attracted to that, he reminded her of her father. Phineas tried very hard to be friends with her though no one around seemed to understand why. It wasn't until her seventh year that she allowed him into her heart, and she experienced a long since forgotten feeling of happiness. It scared her and though she wanted to run from it while she was at Hogwarts she did her best to try and be open to him.

After graduation, she was called back home as her mother had taken ill. Olivia spent most of her time taking care of her abusive mother. Leaving the house only on occasions. She wrote to Phineas who was still attending Hogwarts and would see him during holidays and summer holidays, but she could feel the strain of living with her mother start to weigh on her. It was during Phineas' seventh year that she had a chance meeting with Lucius Malfoy, who told her about a man that he thought she should meet. Her first meeting with Voldemort was surreal and she could see a certain amount of power that radiated off him. Here was a man who knew abuse and overcame it, the thought of that was tantalizing to her. It wasn't long before Olivia believed in the things that the Dark Lord was telling her, and it was him that told her she didn't need to be tied down by her mother who was not worthy of her time. That Olivia deserved to have those around her that were as strong as she was, who understood what it meant to be alone.

The seduction of Olivia was not on the baser level that a lot of Voldemort's conquests were. He seduced her with the promise of not allowing anyone to hurt her again, to be free of such emotion...to be in charge of her own destiny. Voldemort marked her himself, and when he did he felt something inside of her crush...it was her last clinging hope for happiness; one that she might have been able to allow to grow with her relationship with Phineas. The night that she was marked Olivia went home and suffocated her mother with a pillow, getting her mother almost to the point of death and then taking off the pillow from her face allowing her to catch her breath only to do it again. The whole time she was screaming and letting every vile feeling she ever had escape her. It was her first killing, and for the first time in her life she felt lighter...freer and she related it to the killing itself and the amount of her own hurt she was able to expel; the lashing out was almost a high for her. She was never charged for her mother's death, as Voldemort had made sure it was buried away within the Ministry of Magic with the help of his servant, Lucius.

While she had already joined Voldemort and his cause, she continued with her relationship with Phineas. There was a part of her that still wanted it to be the same between the two of them even though she knew that was impossible. It was an easy seduction for her to bring Phineas into the fold knowing his love for her, and he was perfect to be the public spokesperson for Voldemort as his family was respected, and he could be considered personable; much more so than any of the other's that were in the Dark Lord's Inner Circle. He followed her willingly enough, and while he kept himself busy with public speaking and working on his own cosmetic business, and the two of them threw several recruitment dinner parties; being the perfect Pureblood couple. Otherwise, She stayed busy being Voldemort's personal protector and heading up security and enforcement for the Death Eaters; it was a task that she kept away from Phineas as much as possible knowing that he would not approve, but she was getting to a point where she no longer cared.

When she first discovered she was pregnant it didn't please the Dark Lord at all, as he had grown to depend on her for her duties. It was a the first real fight that Phineas and her had, and it was the first and last she would ever let him win. She kept the baby, though Voldemort was angry, and when she gave birth to the little girl she wanted nothing to do with her. Mostly she was worried that she would treat her as her mother treated her and did not want to do that. Instead she stepped away completely and acted as if the girl didn't exist, or that she didn't belong to her. She only dealt with Millicent when she needed to, and she made sure not to.

Her second pregnancy was not planned, much as the first, but it was not at all welcomed. Deciding that she did not want to bring any wrath from the Dark Lord she decided to terminate the pregnancy, but Phineas found out about it before hand. There was a terrible row, and she began to take a potion a little at a time during the pregnancy that would cause the fetus to die inside of her, the potion was given to her by the Dark Lord himself. Afraid that she would get pregnant again she discussed it with the Dark Lord and he assured her that he would take care of it. She didn't know exactly what happened until afterwards, and though she felt that she should have had some remorse she found that she didn't. By then she had lost a lot of the ability to feel anything except for anger. Part of her feeling guilt for ending her pregnancy in that way, and the other part of her angry at Phineas for putting her in that position in the first place.

After the loss of their second child, Olivia started to lash out at those around her. Physically to her staff of nannies and house elves, while saving her sharp tongue for Phineas. When it came to Millicent though he ignored her completely, due to the fact that in the back of her head she cared enough to not do what her own mother had done to her. Instead she became more involved with the various activities of Voldemort and stayed away from the house.

When Voldemort was defeated it was exceptionally hard for Olivia as it was a member of her own family that had caused it to happen. She had wanted to go and look for him herself, and did many times but after awhile she wondered if even caring for Voldemort was enough to bring herself hurt; and if so then she wasn't willing to let that happen to her. Instead she stayed at home and locked herself away from society and herself whenever possible. Since the Dark Lord's reappearance, Olivia feels the responsibility of serving him once again, and yet inside she is torn between going back and making it a possible opening for her to get hurt, or staying away and not getting involved. It's only because of the fact that she knows that without her involvement that Millicent might be killed because of her connection to the vile Potter name, has she decided to go back. She may not exactly love her daughter, but she doesn't necessarily want to see her harmed either.
